In a recent episode of the "Kabar" podcast, Minister of Health Erkin Checheybaev reported that 11% of the population of Kyrgyzstan officially suffers from mental illnesses. This data was obtained based on statistics from psychiatric medical institutions across the country.
Among the disorders included in this statistic are depression, stress disorders, panic attacks, and neuroses.
Checheybaev noted that this trend is observed not only in Kyrgyzstan but also in other countries around the world. More and more people are facing anxiety and emotional overloads, especially as a result of severe events or stress, which leads them to seek help from specialists.
"Information stress is a major factor negatively affecting mental health. The increase in the number of requests is associated with the overwhelming flow of information that modern individuals face. In most news that we consume, up to 60% consists of negative events, which significantly impacts mental well-being," the minister added.
In his opinion, mass media and bloggers, in their quest to attract attention and gain likes, often focus on negative aspects. As a result, individuals are confronted daily with numerous alarming news items, from minor incidents to global conflicts.
The minister emphasized that the human brain is under constant strain. "Every day we make between 500 and 700 decisions, big and small. Even the choice of a drink in a store is a decision that adds to the burden," he noted.
The head of the Ministry of Health highlighted that psychological fatigue is one of the main problems of modernity.
Information overload, everyday stressors, and global events create an atmosphere that gradually depletes people's emotional resources. According to the minister, this is one of the reasons for the increase in the number of people seeking professional help.
