Taken out of context. The Minister of Health clarified the moment regarding the closure of pharmacies.
In the statement, the ministry emphasizes that the minister's words were misinterpreted.
“During the interview, the issue of closing pharmacies as such was not discussed. The main focus was on a serious problem, confirmed by international experience: the high level of citizens' spending on medications, the prevalence of self-medication, and the unrestricted access to antibiotics without consultations with a doctor. Erkin Checheybaev highlighted the importance of implementing modern methods for regulating the circulation of medications, including prescription dispensing, quality control, limiting aggressive advertising, and measures to prevent unjustified consumption of drugs,” the statement reads.

It is also noted that similar measures are being implemented in various countries to protect public health and prevent the increase of antibiotic resistance, which is considered by the World Health Organization to be one of the most serious threats to global health.
“All changes in this area will be carried out gradually and thoughtfully, taking into account the opinions of experts, the pharmaceutical community, business structures, and the interests of the population. The goal of the proposed measures is not to limit access to necessary medications, but to organize the market and enhance safety for patients,” the ministry's message emphasizes.
The Ministry of Health will continue to actively communicate with the professional community, the pharmaceutical sector, and the public to maintain a balance between the availability of medications, the safety of citizens, and international standards for the rational use of drugs.
