In Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Health has initiated a review of the methods for appointing, selecting, and evaluating the heads of medical institutions. This became known from a statement by the ministry's press center made by Minister Erkin Chechebaev.

According to Chechebaev, the main requirement for the heads of medical organizations is their ability to manage effectively. "It is not necessary for the director to be an outstanding doctor. A doctor should care for patients, while a professor should teach students and develop science. However, this does not always imply the presence of management skills," he noted.

"A true manager should be not only an organizer but also a leader who creates a positive atmosphere in the team, inspires employees, and leads them forward," the minister added.

In the context of the rapid development of digital technologies and active reforms in healthcare, Chechebaev stated that it is necessary to strive for "transparent and fair decisions based on factual data and meritocracy, excluding any corrupt practices."

It was previously reported that the ministry is actively replenishing the reserve of managers for the country's medical institutions. As of September 2025, there were 453 participants in the reserve, of which 155 could participate in the competitive selection and appointment process.
