According to Ulan Balpaev, a thoracic oncologist from the National Center for Oncology and Hematology, electronic cigarettes contain not only nicotine but also various chemicals that may be potentially more harmful than those found in regular cigarettes. In an interview with AkiPress, the specialist noted that vapes and electronic cigarettes remain insufficiently studied.

“These devices may even be more harmful than traditional tobacco products, as they contain chemicals whose origins and manufacturing processes are still in question. Nicotine in electronic cigarettes is also not the only dangerous component,” he explained.

Balpaev added that there is no data on the harm of electronic cigarettes in Kyrgyzstan, while active research on this topic is being conducted internationally.

He emphasized that smoking negatively affects not only the lungs but also impacts other organs, including the heart, stomach, teeth, esophagus, and oral cavity. This often leads to diseases such as gastritis and ulcers, and may eventually cause oncological diseases, the doctor noted.

Additionally, he provided statistics: about 40 out of 50 patients diagnosed with lung cancer had been smokers for many years.
