In the Issyk-Kul region, in the Ak-Suu district, the import of purebred yaks from China is expected to improve the local breed quality. The head of the district agricultural development department, Bakytbek Akmoldoев, commented on the situation for Turmush.

According to him, there are currently 6,348 yaks in the district.

“During the visit of the regional leader to China, an agreement was reached to supply 200 purebred yaks. We expect that 70 of them will soon arrive in our district. The main task is to improve the breed quality. At the same time, we plan to develop the processing of wool and leather. In recent years, our yak population has significantly decreased. For example, two-year-old individuals yield about 150 kilograms of meat, while four-year-olds yield about 220. If we mix them with the imported animals, it could significantly increase productivity and meat yield,” Akmoldoев added.

He also emphasized that improving the genetics of yaks will help strengthen the industry and enhance the economic benefits for local farmers.
