In Nizhny Novgorod, for the first time in history, Kyrgyz citizens living in this region had the opportunity to participate in the parliamentary elections of their country. This became possible thanks to the opening of the honorary consulate of the Kyrgyz Republic in February 2025, which gave a new impetus for citizens' participation in democratic processes. A correspondent from 24.kg also visited the polling station.

The polling station is located in the office of the honorary consul in the very center of the city. It began operations at 8:00 AM local time, just like other polling stations. Unlike Moscow, there were no queues here.

Voters are greeted not only by members of the commission but also by Honorary Consul Vadim Yun, as well as representatives of the local diaspora and international observers, including the chairperson of the Nizhny Novgorod regional election commission, Margarita Andreeva, and commission member Marina Ovchinnikova.

The voting took place without any problems — the process was organized and calm, not differing from the elections in Bishkek. The voter first presents their passport, undergoes biometric identification, after which they receive a ballot with candidates from their district. After making their choice, they drop the ballot into the reading device. Thus, the vote was counted.

After the voting concluded, I spoke with Honorary Consul Vadim Yun. I inquired about the voter turnout. My ballot was the 31st — I voted about three hours after the polling station opened, around 11:00 AM. He noted that these are the first elections for Kyrgyz citizens in the region and expressed interest in how many active citizens live here.

We also discussed the work of the honorary consulate. Vadim Yun mentioned that the opening of the office was accompanied by a visit from the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kubanychbek Bokontayev, who met with the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin. In June of this year, the Minister of Digital Development and Innovative Technologies, Azamat Jamangulov, also visited Nizhny Novgorod on a working visit, where he discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including high technologies.

This year, a business mission was conducted, during which 28 Nizhny Novgorod entrepreneurs visited Bishkek to meet with local businesspeople and representatives of the state structures of Kyrgyzstan.

In the near future, according to Vadim Yun, agreements on cooperation between the regions and cities of the two countries are planned to be signed.

It is important to note that although the honorary consulate does not have the powers of a full-fledged embassy, it provides citizens with consultations and assistance in organizing contacts and resolving organizational issues.
