The head of the State Financial Intelligence Service listed popular scenarios of telephone and internet fraud

On the air of Birinchi Radio, the chairman of the State Financial Intelligence Service, Kanat Asangulov, revealed information about the most common fraud schemes in the modern world.

According to him, based on information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and expert opinions, situations such as calls from a "bank" are frequently encountered in Kyrgyzstan, during which fraudsters report suspicious transactions and ask for a code from an SMS message. They may use spoofed numbers, allowing them to appear on the screen as the official bank number.

Calls from "Ministry of Internal Affairs employees" or "investigators" are also common, claiming that a person is involved in a criminal case and demanding an urgent payment to avoid consequences.

In some cases, criminals call pretending to be relatives, informing that a loved one has been in an accident or detained, demanding an urgent money transfer.

Equally popular are schemes related to "investments," where victims are lured with promises of high returns, bonuses, and other profitable investments.

As for the youth, they often fall victim to dropper schemes, as Asangulov noted.

“A dropper is not the initiator of the crime but merely follows the instructions of the criminals, receiving small amounts in return — 200, 300, or 500 soms. Unfortunately, schoolchildren often fall for such offers and end up being involved in fraudulent schemes,” emphasized Asangulov.
He also added that the recruitment of new victims can occur through advertisements on social networks and messengers, offering a quick and "safe" way to earn money related to money transfers and cashing out funds.

“Sometimes fraudsters exchange cards for in-game items, such as gold or equipment. Usually, the victims are children whom the criminals find on gaming platforms, promising them rare armor or exclusive weapons in games in exchange for bank details, and then sell this information,” he added.
