Roads are the face of the country. How have the roads of Kyrgyzstan changed this year?

According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the total length of roads in Kyrgyzstan is 34 thousand kilometers.
Of this number:

The ministry is responsible for the maintenance of about 19 thousand kilometers of roads, while the remaining 15 thousand kilometers are managed by cities, rural councils, and both private and state enterprises.
Road Achievements of 2023
This year, the ministry set records in the construction and repair of roads and international corridors.
Among the significant projects is the national road Barskoon - Bedel, which provides direct communication with China. Important routes are also being constructed with budget funds: Balykchy - Bokonbaev - Karakol, Naryn - Bayetov, Ala-Buka - Jany-Bazar - Kirovka, and the Suusamyr section of the Bishkek - Osh road. Additionally, work is actively progressing on the alternative North - South road, where five new facilities are being built.

As part of investment projects, the construction of a 748-meter tunnel on the routes Suusamyr - Talas - Taraz, Korumdu - Balbay-baatyr, Barskoon - Karakol, and Bishkek - Osh continues.
A 33-kilometer section of the road Uzgen - Myrzake - Kara-Kuldja, which had long been unused, has also been overhauled. The implementation of the Osh - Batken - Razzakov road project, which has been postponed multiple times, is also ongoing.
Expansion of the Road Network in Bishkek
The capital is actively working on creating alternative routes and widening narrow roads to two lanes to reduce traffic jams. The construction of a six-lane road is in full swing, and two-level interchanges are also being built. Reconstruction is underway on the routes Lebedinovka - HPP 5, Bishkek - Kant, Bishkek - Kuntuu - Shopokov.

Accessibility of Tourist Routes
To improve tourist infrastructure and regional routes, the road Tyup - Kegen has been opened. In Cholpon-Ata, street renewal works have been carried out. The roads to Char-Kuduk, the ski resort "Karakol," the walnut forest of Arstanbap, Lake Sary-Chelek, and the boarding houses on Issyk-Kul have also been put in order. Work continues on the routes to Arashan - Chunkurchak, Jyrgalan, the ski base "Ala-Tuu Resort," and the pasture Kychyn.

Road Development Plan Exceeded
The development of state roads is handled by the Department of Road Economy of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Maintenance, repair, and monitoring of road conditions are carried out by 57 road enterprises (DEP).
According to Asylbek Choybekov, head of the Road Administration, more than 1000 kilometers of roads were planned to be repaired and constructed this year. In practice, however, work has been completed on more than 1500 kilometers. 80% of these costs were covered by the state budget, and 133 kilometers were built with investments.

"These are works with a total cost of almost 44 billion soms. The annual budget of the ministry exceeds 50 billion soms. In addition, large infrastructure projects are being implemented, planned for 3-5 years, some of which started in previous years. These include the Northern Bypass Road of Bishkek, the bypass road around Issyk-Kul, and the Karakol-Enilchek road," noted Choybekov.
"Even under conditions of temporary suspension of asphalt laying works due to weather conditions, the construction of bridges and the installation of culverts continue," added Asylbek Choybekov.
