Former director of TSUM: The fountains are not going anywhere

The reason for the cutting down of the willows was rotten roots

The fountains located near TSUM in Bishkek will remain in their places. This was reported to blogger Adilet Nogoybaev by Mikhail Mihin, the former director of the department store.

According to the former manager, the fountains are not just an element of landscaping, but an important part of the building's engineering infrastructure:

“These fountains are connected to TSUM's cooling system: the building uses a water chiller that participates in heat exchange — on one side, the water is heated, while on the other, it cools the air entering the sales floors. This system was laid down back in Soviet times, and without it, the building cannot function.”

As for the cutting down of the willows, Mikhail Mihin explained this by their emergency condition.

“For a long time, we monitored the trees, carried out pruning and cared for them, but over time it became clear that the root system began to rot. Inspections confirmed that the trees had become dangerous, and a decision was made to remove them.”

According to him, specialists from "Zelenstroy" also warned about the necessity of this measure.

In addition, Mikhail Mihin refuted rumors about possible construction in the area around the fountains. He emphasized that the work will be carried out according to the project: the fountains will be preserved, the space will be updated by adding modern elements such as lighting, musical accompaniment, and 3D effects, making the area more comfortable for the city's residents.
