The city hall of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, explained why the road near the Central Department Store appears narrower than before. This was reported by Abdijapar Kulzhanbolotov, the deputy director of the transport department, in an interview with the resource 24.kg.
According to him, the width of the road has not changed and remains the same as before.
“This is just an optical effect. The main roadway has remained unchanged, and in some places, it has even been widened by 4 meters. We added an additional lane for public transport with an increase and extension. The total length of the area is now 55 meters,” Kulzhanbolotov clarified.
The deputy head of the department also noted that he suggested adding another lane at the turn from Abdrakhmanov Street.
In response to a question about the new protrusion, Kulzhanbolotov explained that this element was created to improve the maneuverability of public transport at the bus stop.
“Previously, the stop was often occupied by taxi drivers and private cars, which created problems for buses. To prevent this, we left this protrusion — it may look like a narrowing, but in fact, the main part of the road is four lanes wide and has a width of 16.5 meters, while where the expansion occurred, the width is already 20 meters,” he added.
