What are the reasons for the appearance of waves and ruts on the roads of Bishkek? On October 29, on "Birinchi Radio," the chief specialist of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of the capital, Azamat Osmonaliev, shared his insights on this issue.

He noted that a round table was recently organized, where experts from Almaty, Russia, as well as representatives of contracting organizations gathered to discuss this problem.

“We analyzed the reasons why the condition of the road surface deteriorates during the summer period. Among the factors causing defects, experts highlighted outdated construction norms and rules (SNiPs) and state standards (GOSTs) that continue to be used to determine the composition of asphalt concrete, as well as the quality of the bitumen used,” Osmonaliev explained.

He also added that in recent years, Bishkek has seen an increase in the number of defects, especially ruts, which occur at intersections before traffic lights and near bus stops.

“Imagine that a bus constantly stops at a traffic light or at a stop. With each braking, its wheels 'rub' against the road surface, and this happens with enviable regularity,” the specialist clarified.

According to Osmonaliev, the Department of Transport of the Bishkek City Hall, together with colleagues from Kazakhstan and Russia, is actively seeking optimal solutions to this problem.

“We are considering the possibility of changing the composition of the bitumen or increasing the thickness of the asphalt layer to enhance the surface's resistance to loads and temperature changes,” he added.
