Citizens are urged to enable two-step verification to protect their accounts
Recently, there has been an increase in fraudulent activities using the WhatsApp messenger, according to information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Malefactors find ways to access users' accounts and then send messages to relatives on their behalf, requesting urgent money transfers.
To protect against hacking, the Ministry of Internal Affairs strongly recommends activating the two-step verification feature in WhatsApp. This will help prevent the possibility of linking the number to another device without entering the user-set PIN code.
“To enable two-step verification, go to WhatsApp settings, select the 'Account' section, then go to 'Two-step verification' and set a six-digit PIN code. It is also recommended to provide an email address for account recovery,” the agency's message states.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes the importance of keeping the PIN code confidential and urges citizens not to share it with third parties. Additionally, it is recommended to avoid clicking on links and using codes or QR codes received from strangers.
Following these measures significantly reduces the likelihood of unauthorized access to accounts and leaks of personal data.
