In Kazakhstan, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (DUMK) has declared that the use of deepfakes is unacceptable from the perspective of Sharia. In this regard, a fatwa has been published clearly prohibiting the application of such technologies.

The document states that Islam does not oppose scientific and technological progress if it benefits society and promotes justice and humanity. However, according to the clergy, deepfakes are often used to cause harm.

DUMK emphasizes that Sharia condemns the spread of false information and the deception of people, including through technologies that allow attributing statements and actions to a person that they did not commit.

Deepfakes can seriously undermine reputations, provoke conflicts, instill fear, and even pose a threat to life. Therefore, even humorous deepfakes are considered unacceptable.

Muslims are strongly advised to avoid such practices.
