A Tourism School is Planned to be Established at Issyk-Kul with the Support of Austria

The issue of creating a tourism school in the Issyk-Kul region became a key topic during an online meeting held on January 27, 2026, between the Minister of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, and the Austrian delegation.

The Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that the main goal of this event was to discuss areas of cooperation in vocational, technical, and tourism education, as well as technology transfer in accordance with the previously signed Joint Statement.

The parties also considered issues related to the implementation of previously reached agreements, interaction in the field of tourism infrastructure, training specialists for the railway industry, and practical participation in the establishment of a tourism school in the Issyk-Kul region.

The discussion focused on organizing the educational process for winter tourism and winter sports, as well as the stages of preparing and developing infrastructure, including possible reconstruction of buildings and the implementation of Austrian teaching methods and international practices.

The Minister of Education emphasized the importance of a thorough analysis of issues related to the establishment of a tourism school, as well as the use of Austrian experience in mentorship and methodology. The Austrian side confirmed its readiness to provide support, including the training of teaching staff and assistance in creating an educational center based on modern technologies.

The online meeting was attended by the Deputy Ministers of Education of Kyrgyzstan, Albert Makmetkulov and Lira Samykbaeva, as well as the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Austria, Nurzhan Shaildabekova. The Austrian delegation included Dorothea Auer from the Austrian Agency for Economic Cooperation and Development (AED), Michael Matiashitz from the Federal Ministry of Finance of Austria, and representatives from the Klessheim Tourism College and the Austrian Technology Corporation.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation and move towards developing a plan for joint activities.
