In Kyrgyzstan, there are about 60 tailings storage facilities, which are a legacy of the Soviet era. Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Azamat Mambetov shared this information at a briefing dedicated to plans for disaster prevention and activities scheduled for 2026.

He noted that the reclamation of tailings storage facilities is being carried out with the help of international partners, including the Russian state corporation "Rosatom".

Work in the village of Min-Kush has already been completed, and $28 million has been allocated by donors for projects in Min-Kush and Shekaftare, while $21 million has been allocated for Mailuu-Suu.

By 2030, it is expected that all tailings storage facilities will be brought to a safe condition, which will eliminate the risk of river pollution.

The Deputy Minister also emphasized social initiatives for employees. He reminded that by the president's directive, the salaries of divers, employees of the Hydrometeorological Service, foresters, and staff of the State Material Reserves Fund will be increased.

“Last year, military personnel received a bonus. For example, those with ranks above sergeant receive from 50,000 soms and above. Divers, who previously earned 20-30 thousand, will now earn up to 50-60 thousand thanks to a special bonus of 20 thousand soms,” said Azamat Mambetov.

In addition, work continues on cleaning lakes, including Issyk-Kul. In 2025, about 200 kilometers of fishing nets were removed from the bottoms of water bodies. Activities to strengthen environmental and technological safety will continue.
