As part of the program to improve the ecosystems of Lake Issyk-Kul and Lake Son-Kul, it is planned to release 17.6 million fry in 2026. Of this amount, 14.1 million will be released into Issyk-Kul, and 3.5 million into Son-Kul. This was reported by Daiyrbek Orunbekov, who holds the position of head of the information policy department of the President of Kyrgyzstan, on his social media.

He noted that, at the initiative of the country's president, work is being carried out to clean the water in Lake Issyk-Kul from fishing nets located on its bottom.

“During the specified period, many nets have been removed. Strict measures are being applied to those who use electric current to catch fish and throw nets into the lake. The results of these efforts have begun to show quite quickly: there have been video recordings of large schools of small fish along the shores of Issyk-Kul,” he added.

According to the president's decree, a moratorium on fishing has been introduced in the territory of Issyk-Kul and Son-Kul. This decision contributes to active efforts to restore the ecosystems of these lakes, and in 2025, 13.6 million fry were released into Issyk-Kul, and 5.6 million into Son-Kul,” Orunbekov concluded.
