At Issyk-Kul, damage from illegal fishing since the beginning of the year has exceeded 2.2 million soms

Active measures against illegal fishing and identifying cases of poaching continue on Issyk-Kul, as well as the cleaning of water bodies from old and illegally installed nets.

This was reported by the press service of the Internal Affairs Department of the Issyk-Kul region.

In the first ten months of this year, 111 offenses were registered under Article 310 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, which pertains to illegal fishing of fish and aquatic animals. As a result of these actions, 14 individuals were detained, and the ecological damage amounted to 2 million 211 thousand 645 soms.

During the cleaning and restoration activities of the lake this year, 3,194 synthetic nets with a total area of 319,400 square meters were removed. 1,339 fish of various species were saved and returned to their natural habitat.

Since the beginning of the year, police officers, fishery workers, and local residents have been actively participating in the restoration of the lake's ecosystem, covering the following areas:

Ton District:

— 300,000 trout

— 1.8 billion sig-loodogi

City of Balykchy and the village of Toru-Aygyr:

— 800,000 sig-loodogi

Tüp District:

— 2 million sig-loodogi

— 100,000 trout

Statistics on the removal of synthetic nets from Lake Issyk-Kul for 2022–2025:

— 2022 — 11,115 pcs.

— 2023 — 11,510 pcs.

— 2024 — 609 pcs.

— 2025 — 3,194 pcs. (to date)

“For the Internal Affairs Department of the Issyk-Kul region, the preservation of the Issyk-Kul ecosystem is a key direction. Together with environmental protection agencies and local residents, we are strengthening the fight against poaching and continuing efforts to restore and clean the lake,” the press release states.
