Since the beginning of 2025, 144 raids have been conducted as part of the fight against illegal fishing in Issyk-Kul. This was reported by Kylchbek Tentimyshev, head of the regional department of the ecological and technical supervision service of the Ministry of Natural Resources, on the air of "Birinchi Radio".

During the inspections, 40 kilometers of Chinese synthetic nets used by poachers were extracted and destroyed.

“Previously, there was an organized group engaged in illegal fishing. One and a half to two years ago, we discovered new nets, as well as many dead fish and waterfowl. Currently, we mainly extract old nets that lie on the bottom and are gradually deteriorating. The number of fish in the lake is increasing, and their sizes have also noticeably grown,” Tentimyshev noted.

He added that poachers with years of experience in fishing have adapted to the new conditions. “Earlier, they used plastic bottles to set up nets, which made them easy to detect. Today, however, poachers use GPS to hide nets and return to them using specified coordinates. But our services are also evolving: the Ministry of Emergency Situations has underwater drones, we deploy aerial drones, conduct night patrols, and eco-police actively participate in the operation. Together, we are stopping violators,” he emphasized.

In addition, Kylchbek Tentimyshev noted that in recent years, special attention has been paid to the biosphere territory of Lake Issyk-Kul, the material and technical base is being updated, and new boats are being purchased, which, in turn, allows for better results in the fight against poaching.
