According to the minister, the shallowing of Lake Issyk-Kul is observed; however, its nature is more cyclical. One cycle lasts about 330 years, and, as Mashiev noted, in the 60s and 70s, the water level reached its peak, after which it began to decline. He reported this in an interview with the AKIpress agency.

The minister added that the process of shallowing is controlled, although some changes are occurring.

“This year we developed and approved a concept for the sustainable development of the ecological and economic system of Issyk-Kul. Within the framework of this concept, we plan to create an action plan. We are conducting various studies and want to establish regulations for studying Issyk-Kul, as well as a protocol for observing and monitoring the condition of the lake, including hydrophysical and hydrochemical parameters, as well as microbiology,” he stated.

The head of the ministry noted that they are actively collaborating with various international scientific institutions. Recently, an expedition was conducted by the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and earlier, a study was carried out by Leipzig University in Germany.

“We strive to participate in such studies and develop a plan for creating a systematic monitoring system. Previously, there was no unified approach to monitoring the condition of Issyk-Kul from the state authorities. The Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Agriculture, and our department each monitored the condition in their own way, and now we want to combine these efforts for a comprehensive study. Currently, measures are being taken to implement a monitoring system,” concluded Mashiev.
