Explanation from the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture
The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry stated that the main factor behind the price increase is the heightened demand in Kazakhstan and Russia, where wholesale and retail prices are also rising.

"The wholesale price has increased from 10 to 12 soms per egg. However, there are positive aspects: last year many local producers faced difficulties, and now the price increase will allow them to recover," the ministry noted.
According to the agency, Kyrgyzstan is capable of meeting 80% of its demand for chicken eggs.
Opinions of Poultry Farmers
The editorial team of Kaktus.media also spoke with local poultry farmers, who named several reasons for the rise in egg prices. The first reason is the rising cost of feed, which is imported from Kazakhstan. The government exempts feed from VAT to assist poultry farmers; however, costs remain high.

The second factor is avian influenza. Cases of the disease have been reported in Russia, Kazakhstan, and other countries, leading to the culling of birds in some regions.
"A global shortage has emerged, significantly increasing the demand for eggs. Even in Japan, where the egg situation has also worsened, similar problems are observed," the poultry farmers noted.

According to them, Kazakhstan actively purchased eggs from Kyrgyzstan last year, and now exports are primarily directed there.
Nevertheless, local producers must first meet the needs of the domestic market - supermarkets and regions of the country. The third reason is that over the past two years egg consumption has increased. People have become more health-conscious and are cooking eggs for breakfast more often, which has raised domestic demand.
"Thus, the price increase is linked to global trends, rising feed costs, and increased demand," the poultry farmers added.

Poultry farmers concluded that there is a need for dialogue between the Ministry of Water Resources and antimonopoly authorities to stabilize the market. It is important to determine whether there is a decrease in production or if it is caused by other factors, and to take measures based on that.
