Captain Adilet Omurbek uulu, senior officer of the fire supervision and prevention department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic for the Naryn region, presented recommendations on fire safety rules.

In the current year, 8 fires related to heating and 1 incident in the market due to improper use of electrical appliances have already been registered in the Naryn region.

Recommendations from the Ministry of Emergency Situations on compliance with fire safety rules

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic for the Naryn region emphasizes the importance of adhering to fire safety rules during the winter heating season, as well as precautionary measures to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. In light of the increasing number of fires in residential buildings, citizens are urged to follow basic safety rules.

Main causes of fires in private homes

According to Adilet Omurbek uulu, the majority of fires occur in private residential homes, with the main causes being careless handling of fire, improper installation of heating systems, and untimely cleaning of chimneys. Discarded cigarette butts and matches also pose a serious threat, which can lead to tragic consequences, including loss of life.

Fire safety: the importance of checking heating systems and electrical appliances

A fire caused by a match or cigarette butt can have serious consequences, affecting not only residential homes but also the surrounding environment. Therefore, it is crucial to regularly check stoves and chimneys, monitor the condition of electrical wiring, never leave children unattended, and not discard burning matches.

The danger of homemade heaters and worn-out electrical wiring

The use of homemade heaters and outdated electrical wiring often leads to fires. Therefore, when leaving the house, always check all electrical appliances and follow basic safety rules to avoid tragedies.

How to properly prepare coal stoves and chimneys for winter

When operating coal stoves, it is important to prepare them for winter in advance: clean the chimneys, properly ignite the fire, and ensure adequate air supply. Previously, chimneys were often made of brick, but now they are frequently made of metal. At night, in cold weather, this can cause cold air to blow inside, creating a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Therefore, it is essential to closely monitor the use of electrical appliances and the operation of the stove.

What to do in case of carbon monoxide poisoning

If the smell of carbon monoxide is detected in a room, it is necessary to immediately ventilate the room. If a person notices symptoms of poisoning, they should go outside for fresh air and call for an ambulance. If they lose consciousness, the victim should not be placed face down; they must be turned on their side to ensure they can breathe. In a face-down position, a person can suffocate.

Preventing fires in institutions and public places

Residents of the region are reminded of the importance of adhering to fire safety rules in institutions, enterprises, schools, and hospitals, where increased caution is required during winter. As the saying goes, "God protects the careful," so indifference should not be shown, and active measures should be taken to prevent fires through awareness-raising among the population.

What to do in case of a fire: emergency actions and calling for help

If a fire does occur, immediately call the fire service at 101 or 112, evacuate people from the burning building, and attempt to extinguish the fire with available means. Following fire safety rules will help protect your home and property.
