In the last 1–2 months, there has been a noticeable increase in egg prices both in Bishkek and in the Chui region.

Some sellers cannot accurately explain the reasons for the price increase, while store owners report a sharp reduction in supplies from poultry farms.

A correspondent from the region contacted the food safety department of the Ministry of Agriculture for clarification.

According to a representative of the department, there are no diseases at the poultry farms, and inspections are conducted regularly. The main reason for the price increase is the seasonal factor: during this period, hens begin to lay fewer eggs. They do not lay eggs continuously, and this process has its cycles.

Additionally, last year, egg prices were significantly lower than in other countries, leading to overproduction in Kyrgyzstan. As a result, some poultry farms were forced to reduce their flock size, and now we are seeing the consequences of these actions.

It is also worth noting that some laying hens have reached the age at which they are being sent for meat. Instead, young birds are currently being hatched and raised. When these chicks reach the age suitable for laying eggs, price stabilization is expected. According to the association's forecasts, this situation may last about 1.5 months, after which the market will recover. Kyrgyzstan, in general, provides itself with eggs at 80%, and price fluctuations in this market are a normal occurrence.

We have sent a request to the antimonopoly service regarding the possibility of artificial price inflation. Antimonopoly authorities are conducting inspections and analyzing the reasons for the price increase. The Ministry of Agriculture, in turn, is considering support measures, including the possibility of temporary imports and assistance to poultry farms. The number of laying hens remains stable, although some birds have been sent for slaughter. Currently, the process of renewing the flock is underway.

According to available data, the current wholesale price for eggs is 10–12 soms.
