In Kyrgyzstan, there are proposals to increase the number of crisis centers

According to the information from the parliament's press service, the meeting addressed issues related to the functioning of crisis centers. In particular, attention was drawn to insufficient funding and the associated difficulties.

Representatives of the crisis centers expressed concern about the funding, emphasizing that last year, 28 million soms were allocated to support these institutions that help women who have experienced domestic and gender-based violence. However, this year, funding has been reduced to 15 million soms.

The Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration explained this reduction by stating that the allocated funds from the previous year were not fully utilized. Nevertheless, the crisis centers noted that delays in the consideration of proposed projects hinder their ability to receive funding on time.

Marlen Mamataliyev emphasized that in recent years, the state, at the initiative of the president, has been paying serious attention to social issues. He noted that active work is being done to prevent gender-based violence, protect the rights of women and children, and strengthen the institution of the family.

The Speaker added that it is necessary to continue this work and enhance cooperation between government agencies and crisis centers. He noted that during the first ten months of last year, 18,254 cases of domestic violence were registered, while there are only 17 crisis centers operating in the country. This indicates the need for their increase and coverage of all regions.

As a result of the discussion, Marlen Mamataliyev instructed the heads of the relevant government agencies to consider all the raised issues and take the necessary measures.

He also noted that if necessary, changes will be made to the legislation. "Our goal is not only to document the problem but also to find ways to solve it. We need a comprehensive approach and prompt measures," he added.

Furthermore, it was confirmed at the meeting that the Jogorku Kenesh will actively monitor the implementation of laws in this area.
