On March 16, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Samuel Ablakwa, as reported by the press service of the head of state.
During the meeting, the possibilities for deepening bilateral cooperation and new areas of interaction were discussed. The President noted that Kyrgyzstan is interested in strengthening ties with African countries, despite geographical distances.
Japarov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is actively developing partnerships with Africa: a new embassy was recently opened in Ethiopia, and plans are in place to open a diplomatic mission in Egypt. Additionally, the country has received observer status in the African Union.
Samuel Ablakwa, for his part, highlighted the importance of the reforms being carried out in Kyrgyzstan, including the fight against corruption and the protection of national interests, especially in the context of the 'Kumtor' issue. He identified areas such as construction, digitalization, tourism, and the agro-industrial complex as key for further cooperation.
The minister also conveyed an invitation from the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, to visit the country next year, timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Ghana's independence and its upcoming chairmanship in the African Union.
Both sides expressed hope that this visit would be an important step towards strengthening bilateral relations.
