The State Penitentiary Service (GSIN) commented on a recent inspection conducted by the Ombudsman Institute at Correctional Facility No. 27, during which certain conclusions were drawn.

On March 17, the Ombudsman reported the results of the monitoring conducted on February 26, indicating violations of the rights of inmates, as well as the alleged overcrowding of the facility.

In response, the GSIN press service noted that there are currently 1,101 inmates in the facility, while the maximum capacity is 1,200 places. Thus, according to the agency, the actual condition of the facility does not indicate overcrowding.

The GSIN clarified that the territory of the facility is 7.27 hectares, and the placement of inmates is carried out in accordance with legislative norms. The institution has separate zones for different categories of inmates, including those convicted of extremism and terrorism, as well as former law enforcement officers and participants in rehabilitation programs.

The agency also pointed out compliance with living space standards: each inmate is provided with at least 2 square meters, and for inmates in cells - 2.5 square meters.

In addition, the GSIN reported that inmates receive necessary bedding, personal hygiene products, and three hot meals a day, in accordance with current standards.

The information about overcrowding and lack of living space, in the opinion of the GSIN, does not reflect reality. The agency emphasizes that work to protect the rights of inmates is carried out on an ongoing basis, and oversight of the activities of institutions is under the jurisdiction of supervisory bodies and the prosecutor's office.

In conclusion, the GSIN noted that all complaints and appeals must be submitted and considered in accordance with the law.
