Tomorrow, December 2, the World Boxing Championship will kick off in Dubai (UAE), organized by the International Boxing Association (IBA) under the leadership of President Umar Kremlov. However, it has been reported that half of the members of the Kyrgyzstan team were unable to obtain visas to participate in this event.

According to information provided by Kaktus.media from the Boxing Federation of Kyrgyzstan, this championship is a commercial event and is not included in the national team's calendar plan. This circumstance means that funding from the state budget for the team's trip is not provided.

The Boxing Federation noted that 13 athletes were registered for the championship, and all necessary documents for visas were submitted to the IBA organizers. However, by December 1, only two boxers—Omar Livaza and Almaz Orozbekov—as well as head coach Daniyar Tologon uulu, received visas.

Visas were not issued to ten other team members. "The visa issue also affects 46 other countries participating in the tournament," representatives of the federation added.

Furthermore, Kaktus.media reports that many athletes sought funds independently to pay for visas and airfare.

“The federation helped with accreditation, but otherwise the guys sought funding on their own. Some received assistance from world champion Dmitry Bivol, while others were helped by sponsors and friends,” the team said.

Nevertheless, three boxers have already managed to obtain visas and arrived in Dubai.

“They were able to get family tourist visas thanks to acquaintances, but it cost them double,” the team clarified.

The athletes noted that the federation initially took a neutral position regarding participation in the tournament, as it is a commercial event. “We said that those willing could participate at their own expense, as this year the team had already participated in another world championship in Liverpool, where all expenses were covered by the state budget. This is the second world championship in a year, but many renowned boxers, including Olympic champions, are still participating, such as the Uzbekistan team,” the team explained.

Currently, the Boxing Federation of Kyrgyzstan is working on obtaining visas for the remaining team members, and if they manage to process the visas within the day, they will be able to fly to Dubai tomorrow.

List of boxers who did not receive visas: It is worth noting that the IBA was stripped of its right to conduct Olympic qualification and competitions in 2019 due to financial and management issues, and in June 2023, the IOC revoked the association's recognition status. The IBA called this decision politicized and currently includes 198 national federations.

A new organization, World Boxing, was established in April 2023 as an alternative to the IBA with the aim of preserving boxing in the Olympic movement and seeks recognition from the International Olympic Committee, awaiting the conclusion of arbitration proceedings with the IBA.
