Istvan Urbanyi has taken over the Maldives national team after 12 years

The Maldives national team will once again be led by Istvan Urbanyi, who previously held this position twice: from 2009 to 2010 and from 2011 to 2013. During this time, he achieved significant success in regional competitions and raised the overall level of the team.

Now, after more than ten years, the Hungarian coach is returning to introduce new ideas into the coaching process, implement modern approaches, and prepare the team for international challenges.

The Football Association of Maldives emphasized that Urbanyi's appointment will contribute to the long-term development of football in the country. This includes not only nurturing young talents and improving infrastructure but also enhancing the competitiveness of the national team both in South Asia and on broader continents.

Known for his emphasis on tactical discipline and working with youth teams, Urbanyi, according to FAM, will be an important element in the strategy for achieving future successes for the team.
