The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has decided to move the European Championship, which was scheduled to take place in the summer of 2026 in Tallinn, to France.

Rumors about a possible relocation of the tournament began to emerge as early as the end of 2025. As reported by the Estonian Public Broadcasting ERR, the FIE had requested written confirmation from the organizers that all athletes would be able to cross the border without issues and participate in the competitions, regardless of their nationality or military status.

However, the Estonian authorities refused to provide such a document. The Vice Chancellor of the Estonian Ministry of Culture for Sports, Raido Mitta, emphasized that Tallinn cannot guarantee unhindered entry for all participants.

He also noted that the country's position remains unchanged: visas for athletes from Russia and Belarus are not being issued, and no exceptions will be made.

In this regard, the FIE has made the final decision to move the European Championship to France.
