The Moroccan national team is now under the leadership of Mohamed Ouabi, who was appointed to this position by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). He replaced Walid Regragui, who led the "Atlas Lions" to a historic fourth place at the World Cup in Qatar.
Ouabi earned his promotion due to his outstanding achievements with youth teams. Under his guidance, the Moroccan youth national team achieved a sensational victory at the World Cup in Chile, and the Olympic team won bronze medals at the 2024 Games in Paris. Before returning to Morocco, Ouabi worked for nearly two decades at the renowned academy of the Belgian club "Anderlecht."
Joining the coaching staff is Portuguese specialist João Sacramento, who has extensive experience working with top European clubs such as "Paris Saint-Germain," "Roma," "Tottenham," and "Lille," where he served as an assistant to well-known coaches.
The president of the FRMF, Fouzi Lekjaa, outlined the main goals of the new coaching staff: to maintain the status of the strongest team in Africa and to establish itself in world football. Ouabi's first match in his new role will be a friendly against Ecuador, scheduled for March 27. This meeting will be an important stage in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, where Morocco will face Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti in the group stage.
