After eight months of investigation, the judicial authorities concluded that Maiolas, while serving as president of the federation, abused his position and embezzled funds allocated for the development of football in the country.
The court found him guilty of several crimes, including money laundering, theft, forgery of documents, and the use of falsified papers. The sentence was announced in the absence of the convicted individual.
In addition to Maiolas, two other high-profile officials of the federation also received sentences in this case: Secretary General Badji Mombo Vantete and Treasurer Raul Kanda, each of whom was sentenced to five years in prison.
Officials of the Democratic Republic of Congo noted that this sentence is a testament to the strengthening of the fight against corruption in sports organizations and aims to improve the transparency of football management.
