At the recent 240th meeting of the World Athletics Council, held in the Polish city of Torun, the host cities for the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 2028 and 2030 were announced. Odisha (India) will host the tournament in 2028, while Astana (Kazakhstan) will host the championship in 2030. This was reported by the Kazinform agency.

The choice of Astana as the host city underscores the strategic intent of the World Athletics Association to develop the sport in new markets. This will allow Kazakhstan to expand its audience in athletics, which is particularly relevant in the context of globalization.

It is worth noting that Astana already has experience in hosting major events: in 2023, it hosted the Asian Indoor Championships, and stages of the Gold World Indoor Tour are also planned for 2024 and 2025.
