“Sadyr, you have been the de facto ruler of our country since your appointment. At first, many believed in your promises, hoping for freedom of speech, independent media, fair elections, and protection of human rights. But people have already had a chance to 'live' in the city of Asman, and now they are opening their eyes to what is happening,” Atambayev stated.
“Throughout all these years, you have not hesitated to slander me and accuse me of various troubles. I tried to stay in the shadows and respond calmly, hoping that you would change. However, now you are accusing me again, even of the energy crisis. How long can we remain silent about this brazen lie?”
“People have begun to understand the reality. They remember everything. The people are no longer a silent herd ready to swallow any falsehood. You promised freedom of speech, but now people are imprisoned for social media posts. You spoke of democracy, but independent parties have been exterminated, and many politicians are either under arrest or have already served their time. Honest elections? Those who are undesirable are simply not allowed,” he added, pointing to the increase in public debt and the rise in prices for essential goods.
“Now, when you accuse me of the energy crisis, acknowledging that two mining farms are under your control, including the one operating at 'Kambar-Ate-2', you openly associate yourself with the structures that have been talked about for many years. These farms have contributed to the current crisis,” Atambayev emphasized.
“The first serious energy crisis occurred back when Bakiev was in power, when your friends managed the energy sector, and you were a deputy and advisor to the president. The situation then was even more critical than it is now,” he reminded.“Today, people live in the reality that you have created. Huge state procurements, tenders, water levels – all of this is hidden from the public eye. In five years under your rule, the national debt has increased by 4 billion dollars more than in all 30 years of Kyrgyzstan's independence,” Atambayev noted, pointing to rising inflation and deteriorating living conditions for citizens.
According to him, there is no longer a right to private property in Kyrgyzstan, and the country has turned into a territory of arbitrariness, where businessmen live in constant fear of losing their assets. Houses are demolished, lands are seized, and small businesses are destroyed by taxes and raider attacks.
“Under your rule, freedom of speech has been effectively killed in Kyrgyzstan. If in 2017 we were at the level of Greece, now we have fallen behind many African countries,” he added, emphasizing that those who speak the truth are imprisoned.Atambayev also noted that there are no honest elections left in the country, and opposition parties have been virtually destroyed. Instead of solving problems, the authorities are engaged in suppressing freedom of speech and independent opinions. “Sadyr, I believe that soon the time for truth will come. There will be a fair trial, and all who fabricated cases will answer for their actions,” he concluded.
In closing his address, Atambayev recalled the words of Abraham Lincoln: “You can fool some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time.” He urged the citizens of Kyrgyzstan to take care of themselves and wished everyone health and happiness, and the country prosperity.
