On January 22, the Jogorku Kenesh presented for public discussion a draft law concerning amendments to the law "On State Awards, Honorary Titles, and State Prizes of the Kyrgyz Republic."

Deputy Toktobubu Ashymbaeva, who initiated this draft law, noted that its main goal is to elevate the status of the teaching profession.

As part of the proposed project, it is planned to introduce a new honorary title — "People's Teacher of the Kyrgyz Republic."

As the author explained, this title previously existed: in 2001, it was included in the law on honorary titles, but in 2017, when the updated law on state awards was adopted, the title "People's Teacher" was excluded. From 2001 to 2017, 25 individuals received the title, but today only 7 laureates remain.

The draft law proposes amendments to Article 2 of the current law, adding a new item to the list of first-category honorary titles — "People's Teacher of the Kyrgyz Republic."

The justification for the project also indicates that its implementation will require additional financial resources from the state budget. According to the government resolution, social sector workers whose professional activities correspond to the profile of the title are entitled to allowances for the honorary titles "People's" and "Honored."
