At a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Azizbek Tursunbaev focused on the state of the green fund of Bishkek and its impact on air quality.

He emphasized that Bishkek was once renowned for its greenery, where trees and the irrigation system played a key role in reducing dust and improving the microclimate.

Today, according to him, the number of green spaces has significantly decreased, and simply planting trees without proper oversight will not solve the existing problems.

In response, the mayor of the capital, Aybek Junushaliev, reported on the analysis of the environmental situation conducted as part of the development of the General Plan with the participation of international organizations and independent experts. According to their assessments, the standards for greening in the city have been seriously violated.

The mayor noted that according to urban planning standards, there should be 16 square meters of green space per resident, but currently, this figure in Bishkek is only about 4 square meters.

He also added that in 2025, the city plans to plant more than 18,000 trees, with special attention given to their survival and irrigation. In 2026, the authorities intend to increase the number of new plantings to 50,000.

Furthermore, as the mayor pointed out, the practice of pre-growing trees in nurseries is being implemented, irrigation systems are being restored, and ditches and canals are being cleaned. All these measures are aimed at reducing dust levels and improving air quality.
