At a press conference in Almaty, the director of the payment systems development department of the National Payment Corporation, Rayimbek Shaimerdenov, announced that Kazakhstan is actively negotiating with China, India, the UAE, and Kyrgyzstan on the implementation of a unified interbank QR code. This was reported by Informburo.

Although the technology is currently used mainly in the domestic market, work on organizing cross-border payments has already begun. Shaimerdenov noted that these countries have become the first candidates for mutual recognition of QR codes. Preliminary agreements have also been reached with Turkey and Thailand, which are planned to be connected to the system in 2026.

“We expect to implement full-fledged cross-border payments by the end of 2026. This will allow our citizens to make payments in these countries using a unified QR code, while tourists from these countries will be able to make payments in Kazakhstan in a similar manner,” added Shaimerdenov.
