In the past two years, we also reviewed the contents of the basket before the holiday, taking into account expenses for the New Year’s table. Now we can analyze how prices have changed compared to previous years.
The cost of the minimum set of products for the New Year’s table has decreased by 316 soms, amounting to 8,925 soms. Compared to last year, the basket has become cheaper by 283 soms.
The price survey for products for the New Year’s table was conducted in the same supermarket that we regularly visit. Below is the complete information on which products we included in our basket and why.
It is noteworthy that over the year, the price of bread and "Lambert" cheese remained unchanged. At the same time, prices for green peas, sausage, cucumbers, tomatoes, sprats, pineapples, tangerines, kiwis, candies, red caviar, trout, and butter have decreased.
However, other products have become more expensive.
Since most families start preparing for the holiday in advance, we assumed that basic products such as potatoes, carrots, onions, and cereals are already in stock. There will also be a jar of pickled cucumbers for Olivier salad or sandwiches with sprats. These items were not included in our basket.
The standard set of the New Year’s basket included apples, bananas, bread, meat, vegetable oil, fresh cucumbers, and tomatoes. Additionally, we added a number of products that the family will purchase exclusively for the holiday: red caviar, sprats, butter, trout, tangerines, pineapples, kiwis, quail eggs, canned peas, mayonnaise, smoked sausage, "Lambert" cheese, and chocolate candies.

The prices for products were taken from one of the supermarkets in Bishkek, as many city residents increasingly prefer to shop in large stores. It should be noted that the calculations are approximate, as everyone has their own food preferences and different consumption volumes. Some do not consume meat, while others do not like candies. Therefore, our basket should not be perceived as the ultimate truth. It is more like a social experiment by 24.kg.
