In Kazakhstan, measures to monitor the health of drivers have intensified: a mass cancellation of driver's licenses has begun for citizens who are medically prohibited from driving. This initiative affects thousands of motorists and has caused a wide resonance, according to information from Lada.kz.
Massive checks and license cancellations
The Ministry of Health reported that over 1,700 driver's licenses have been revoked due to medical contraindications.
To identify such cases, the ministry, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, implemented an extensive check, during which databases were compared and citizens on dispensary registration were verified. A total of nearly 370,000 people were subjected to the check.
Results of the check
The analysis of the data was unexpected:
273.8 thousand of those checked had never had a driver's license;
96 thousand people had at one time obtained licenses:
41.7 thousand had their licenses revoked earlier;
54.4 thousand licenses remained valid despite the presence of medical contraindications.
Thus, some drivers continued to operate vehicles without legal grounds due to their health conditions.
Reaction of the judicial authorities
As of December 10, 2025, 4,540 lawsuits from government agencies were submitted to the judicial authorities. As a result of the hearings:
1,787 licenses were officially revoked;
Citizens whose licenses were revoked were deemed incapable of operating vehicles due to medical reasons, making their actions illegal.
The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasize that these measures are aimed at increasing road safety and reducing the likelihood of accidents among people with health restrictions.
What citizens of Kazakhstan should know
The revocation of a driver's license is possible even after it has been issued if medical contraindications are discovered.
Every person on dispensary registration is required to undergo regular medical examinations to keep their license valid.
Ignoring the prohibition on driving can result in administrative or criminal liability.
Experts emphasize that transparency and regular checks of databases are an important step to ensure that only those drivers who can safely operate a vehicle are behind the wheel.
