The proposal for a temporary ban concerns the importation by road of tiles, sheets, and panels made of gypsum, which are covered or reinforced only with paper or cardboard (EAEU HS code 6809 11 000 0). This was reported by the cabinet of ministers in a document that was posted for public discussion here.

In the justification for the decision, it is stated that there is a local enterprise for the extraction and processing of gypsum stone operating in the village of Dostuk in the Jalal-Abad region. Extraction is carried out at the Changyrtash deposit, which is considered one of the largest in the country.

According to available data, the volumes of gypsum stone extraction in recent years have been:

In 2025, this enterprise will temporarily suspend operations for modernization and the construction of a new production complex, as indicated in the report.

The Cabinet believes that maintaining the current level of import supplies may significantly limit the local producer's ability to sell its products and utilize production capacities. The introduction of temporary non-tariff regulatory measures, according to the authorities, will create conditions for restoring production activities and increasing the competitiveness of domestic products, as well as reducing the internal market's dependence on imports.

It should be noted that the measure will be temporary.
