The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan proposes to introduce a temporary restriction on the import of seedlings of fruit and berry crops

Due to the significant variety of fruit and berry crop varieties observed in Kyrgyzstan, there is a need to develop new, high-quality, and modern varieties that meet market requirements. In this regard, a temporary restriction on the import of seedlings that do not meet the necessary standards is being introduced.

According to the proposed document, starting from January 1, 2026, a six-month ban on the import of certain varieties of fruit and berry crop seedlings is planned. However, this restriction will not apply to re-export and transit within the EAEU, as well as to domestic trade.
The aim of these measures is to ensure food security, increase the efficiency of agricultural production, and control the quality of imported seedlings. These restrictions will help reduce dependence on imports, encouraging domestic nurseries to produce certified seedlings, which in turn will improve farmers' access to quality planting materials.
