On his social media page, Omurbek Babakov commented on the recent statement by former president Almazbek Atambayev regarding the energy supply situation in Kyrgyzstan.
“I saw his words in the news and decided to speak out. I rarely engage in political disputes, but for the sake of justice, I believe it is necessary to point out a few moments. The people of Kyrgyzstan remember what happened during the elections in 2017,” Babakov noted.
He emphasized that during that period, state resources were used in the interests of one political force, and many citizens, including doctors and teachers, were forced to participate in political games. “The facts of intimidation and violence against campaigners were a reality. About half a million Kyrgyz citizens were deprived of their voting rights at that time, and this cannot be denied,” he added.
According to Babakov, he consciously suspended his political activities and left the country to avoid escalating the situation. “Neither before nor after the elections did I make statements that could divide society,” he stated.
Further addressing the issue of political competition, Babakov noted that Atambayev's sons held high positions in local government and are now participating in elections again. “In such conditions, talking about fair competition is, at the very least, strange,” he added.
“Currently, there is stability in Kyrgyzstan. Order is being established without crime and disorder, and I support this,” the former prime minister noted.
Babakov called for joint efforts to maintain stability and develop the country. “The fate of the state is more important than personal interests and grievances,” he emphasized.
“If Almazbek Sharshenovich has grievances, I urge him, as a respected aksakal, to make the right choice. It is not advisable to rock the boat and fuel conflicts; it is better to contribute to the development of Kyrgyzstan,” Babakov concluded.
“The country needs peace, unity, and creation. Only in this way can we ensure a future for our people,” he added in his message.
