Omurbek Babanov, former Prime Minister and businessman, shared his opinion regarding the recent statements made by ex-President Almazbek Atambayev concerning political competition.

According to him, he does not pursue a political goal but strives for justice and objectivity.

Babanov reminded that voters remember the 2017 elections when state resources were used in the interests of certain candidates, and employees in the education and healthcare sectors were forced to participate in political life. He also noted that there were instances of pressure on citizens and attacks on campaigners, which led to the "loss of votes and hopes of 500,000 Kyrgyz citizens."

“I decided to temporarily leave the country to maintain stability and prevent a split in society. I have not made any statements that could exacerbate the situation, neither during the elections nor after them,” he emphasized.

Speaking about political competition, Babanov pointed out that Atambayev's sons hold positions in government structures and are running for elections again. “In such an environment, it would be inappropriate to talk about competition,” he noted.

The expert added that there is currently a process of strengthening stability and order in Kyrgyzstan, without criminal manifestations and chaos. He believes that the priority should be to maintain stability and support the country's development.

“The fate of our state is more important than personal ambitions and grievances,” Babanov remarked, addressing Atambayev as a “wise aksakal,” urging him not to provoke political disputes at a time when he is not participating in them.

Babanov expressed confidence that Kyrgyzstan currently needs peace and unity, as this is key to development.
