The IMF Highly Appreciated Kyrgyzstan's Economic Growth in Recent Years
The meeting between Daniyar Amangeldiev, the First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, and Subir Lall, Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the International Monetary Fund, took place recently.
According to the government, during the discussions, the parties reviewed the current macroeconomic indicators of Kyrgyzstan, the results of the recent short-term IMF mission, and opportunities for further cooperation aimed at maintaining sustainable economic growth and developing economic policy.
Amangeldiev noted that the republic has demonstrated stable growth in the socio-economic sphere in recent years, which has been made possible by consistent reforms and a comprehensive approach to the development of key sectors. He also stated that the average annual growth rate of the economy over the last three years was 9.0%, and by the end of 2025, it is expected to reach 10.0%.
Among the priority infrastructure projects mentioned by Amangeldiev are the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the implementation of the Kambarata HPP-1 project, the construction of the Barskoon-Bedel road, and the affordable housing program.
Subir Lall, for his part, positively assessed the dynamics of the economy and the significance of the reforms being carried out in the country, noting that "there has been stable growth over the past four years, which is confirmed by both international and national data." He added that "by the end of 2024, Kyrgyzstan showed one of the best rates of real GDP growth in the world."
The IMF representative also emphasized that "the Kyrgyz Republic is becoming an export-oriented economy," and noted that improving the country's integration into regional economic processes will contribute to sustainable growth.
Additionally, Lall highlighted the stability of the banking system, the growing readiness for integration into global markets, and the need to attract foreign direct investment to maintain positive trends in the economy.
Lall confirmed the IMF's intention to continue providing advisory and analytical support, as well as to assist in developing recommendations to ensure medium-term macroeconomic stability.
As a result of the meeting, the parties noted the constructive nature of the dialogue and expressed a desire to continue exchanging expert assessments and joint efforts to develop practical measures aimed at the sustainable and inclusive development of Kyrgyzstan's economy.
