A politician named Adolf Hitler is heading towards a new victory in the elections in Namibia — The Sun

Adolf Hitler Uunona, who became famous because of his name, is confidently moving towards victory in the local elections in Namibia once again. According to the electoral commission, his re-election for another term seems quite likely.

Uunona emphasizes that his name is not associated with Nazism and has always considered it ordinary. “When I was a teenager, I realized that this person wanted to conquer the whole world,” he shares his thoughts about his famous namesake. The politician added that his wife simply calls him “Adolf,” and in everyday life, he prefers the name Adolf Uunona.

Uunona became a deputy from the ruling Swapo party, which has been governing the country since 1990. Despite the parallels with one of the most famous dictators, he emphasizes: “Having such a name does not mean that I aspire to dominate the Oshana region.”
Namibia, where a small community of German speakers resides, was a colony of Germany from 1884 until the end of World War I and was known as German South-West Africa. This historical connection explains why some residents of the country have German names. The territory then came under the administration of the Union of South Africa, and in 1990, Namibia gained independence.
