In Kyrgyzstan, a law concerning bloggers will soon be developed. Although they are not considered mass media, they have a significant number of followers and should be aware of their responsibility for the information they disseminate. This was stated by the Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy, Mirbek Mambetaliev, in an interview with AKIpress.

According to Mambetaliev, this year a law on mass media was adopted, and now the Ministry is preparing to create a regulatory act concerning bloggers. He emphasized the need for a clear definition of who can be considered a blogger. Bloggers have an audience that they influence, and despite not falling under the category of mass media, their actions matter, and they must be accountable for the information they post.

The minister cited examples of bloggers, including not only public officials but also popular media personalities. He explained that there are bloggers with a small audience who simply inform their followers, and those, for example, with 50,000 or even over a million followers who engage in advertising goods and services. “This activity also relates to entrepreneurship, and we must find a balance so that the interests of all parties are taken into account,” added Mambetaliev.

At the moment, a team of specialists from the Ministry of Culture and other agencies is working on the draft law, which is expected to be ready by 2026.
