A truck driver who was illegally in the U.S. from Kyrgyzstan has been held accountable for a fatal accident in Indiana.

According to information provided by ICE, Bekzhan Beishkeyev was traveling east on Highway 67 in Indiana when, preliminary reports indicate, he failed to brake in time before a truck ahead that was slowing down. As a result, he veered into oncoming traffic and crashed at high speed into a van carrying up to 15 passengers. Four people died as a result of the accident,” the Department of Homeland Security reported.

According to ICE data, Beishkeyev entered the U.S. through the CBP One app and obtained a commercial driver's license (CDL) in Pennsylvania. He is currently in ICE custody in Fort Wayne after being detained by Indiana state police.

ICE representatives expressed the opinion that the tragedy could have been avoided if commercial licenses had not been issued to someone who was in the country illegally.

“Bekzhan Beishkeyev was granted entry into the country by the Biden administration through the CBP One app and was issued a commercial driver's license by Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro. These decisions led to tragic consequences and the deaths of four innocent people in Indiana,” said Assistant Secretary Trisha McLaughlin. “The operation of trucks by illegal immigrants on U.S. roads poses a serious threat, as they are often unfamiliar with local traffic laws and the language. Governors who provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants must stop issuing them commercial licenses to prevent further tragedies,” she added.

Department officials noted a troubling trend in recent months: illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds are operating commercial vehicles in the U.S., creating a threat to road safety and leading to tragic outcomes.
