According to a CIA representative, this video strengthens their efforts to recruit Chinese spies aimed at attracting officers disillusioned by corruption and the purges of generals carried out by the government.
In the video, the narrator says: “Anyone with leadership qualities will evoke fear and will face brutal elimination.” He adds: “I cannot allow these madmen to shape my daughter's future.”
This video is part of efforts to expand the recruitment campaign initiated by the CIA last year, aimed at establishing new connections in China, which is critically important for gathering intelligence.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe stated to CNN: “We will continue to provide opportunities for Chinese officials and citizens to work together to create a bright future.”
During his confirmation hearings, Ratcliffe noted that China is a priority for the agency, and American officials confirmed that the CIA has succeeded in restoring its network of sources within the country that was lost just a few years ago.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, commenting on the video, stated: “China will take all necessary measures to combat the infiltration of anti-China forces and will protect national sovereignty and security.”
“The plans of anti-China forces will not be successful.”
Since 2010, the US has lost several spies in China as a result of a counterintelligence campaign described by The New York Times as paralyzing for the intelligence-gathering system. Restoring these networks has been a task for intelligence leaders for several years.
