Kyrgyzstan has announced its readiness to take legal action against the European Union if it imposes sanctions on Bishkek due to the alleged export to Russia, reports The Financial Times.

The European Commission has proposed a ban on the supply of certain goods to Kyrgyzstan that could be used for military purposes. According to Brussels, Kyrgyz companies are violating established sanctions by re-exporting these products to Russia.

However, Daniyar Amangeldiev, the First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, noted in an interview with FT that the country is doing everything possible to comply with Western sanctions. He added that the European Union has not clarified what measures Bishkek could take to demonstrate compliance with the sanctions requirements and avoid consequences.

“If such a decision is made, it will affect our image. We are ready to challenge it in court,” he emphasized, noting that Kyrgyzstan has “evidence of the measures taken,” while Brussels does not provide the necessary mechanisms for their implementation.
“The rules must be clear. If they are not formulated, how can we follow them?” he added.

Documents from the European Union claim that Kyrgyzstan is re-exporting dual-use goods, such as machinery and electronics, which could be used in the production of weapons and drones.

Amangeldiev also noted that the significant increase in imports is related to large and profitable contracts with European countries, including projects for the construction of hydropower plants in Kyrgyzstan. He acknowledged that there are cases of goods being transited to Russia, but emphasized that the country is striving to prevent this.
