The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reported that drones attacked the city of Nakhchivan from Iranian territory.

This information about the attack on the airport in Nakhchivan was previously published in the media.

According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, as a result of these attacks, two people were injured.

The attacks on Nakhchivan reportedly occurred "around noon" from the Iranian side.

The official statement says that "one of the drones struck the airport terminal building," while another fell "near a school in the village of Shekerabad."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan "categorically condemned" these acts, which led to damage to the airport and injuries among the civilian population. The statement emphasizes:

This attack on Azerbaijani territory violates international law and exacerbates tensions in the region.

We demand that the Islamic Republic of Iran clarify the situation as soon as possible, provide explanations, and take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Azerbaijan reserves the right to take retaliatory actions, the Foreign Ministry's statement noted.

Baku insists that Tehran must provide explanations "as soon as possible" and stop the recurrence of such incidents.

According to The Guardian, there are no American military bases in Azerbaijan, which may indicate that Iran is expanding its attacks beyond targets associated with American troops.

The increase in military cooperation between Baku and Israel raises concerns in Tehran, although overall relations between the two neighbors remain pragmatic, the publication notes.

In both countries, the majority of the population is Shia, and Iran is home to a significant number of ethnic Azerbaijanis—estimated to be between 15 to 20 million, many of whom live in the northwestern provinces bordering Azerbaijan.

The record of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's statement on drone strikes in Nakhchivan first appeared on the K-News website.
