According to information, employees of OpenAI and Google have officially supported Anthropic by signing a document submitted to the court by the participants in the process to outline their position. Among the signatories was Jeff Dean, highlighting the significance of this event: the conflict has begun to involve not just two companies, but a broader AI community.

The lawsuit was prompted by a decision from the U.S. Department of Defense, which recognized Anthropic as a "risk factor for the supply chain." This status is typically applied to foreign suppliers deemed a threat to national security, as seen in cases involving Huawei and ZTE. Now, this status has been assigned to an American AI technology developer, raising many questions since no public explanations have been provided by the authorities. They only refer to classified intelligence data. Interestingly, shortly after this, the Pentagon signed a contract with OpenAI.

The signatories of the appeal indicate that the issue extends beyond a single company. If the government can exclude a player from its ecosystem without clear grounds, it jeopardizes the entire market. Today it is Anthropic, and tomorrow a similar mechanism could be used against any company that disagrees with the terms, raising questions about the future interaction between Washington and the AI sector as a whole.

The court appeal was filed to support Anthropic. Such documents serve to demonstrate that this conflict is important not only for the plaintiff and the defendant. Nearly 40 employees from OpenAI and Google signed it, including Jeff Dean. This underscores that the matter is no longer limited to a local legal dispute but affects the interests of a significant number of participants in the American AI market.

The Pentagon's decision was based on the fact that Anthropic refused to provide its technology for mass surveillance or for autonomous weapon systems. The consequences of such a status could be serious for future federal contracts, relationships with contractors, and the company's perception in the market. If the mechanism can be used for pressure, it will create instability: any hardline position in negotiations with the government could lead to a systemic blow to business.

The Pentagon has not disclosed the reasons for its decision. Authorities refer to classified intelligence information, while Anthropic claims that this decision contradicts administrative procedures and was made opaquely. The lack of transparency raises serious concerns, as it is difficult to defend against accusations whose content is not disclosed.

Employees of OpenAI and Google warn that this situation could change not only the fate of Anthropic but also the entire order of interaction between the state and the AI sector. If such measures become the norm, it will undermine the competitiveness of the U.S. in scientific and industrial fields. A market where a major player can be excluded from the federal ecosystem without explanations becomes unpredictable.

The signatories also express concerns that such actions may cool internal discussions on how to develop AI and where to draw the lines of acceptability. If companies know that refusing to engage in controversial applications of technology could lead to severe consequences, this may reduce the level of openness and criticism among developers.

The support for Anthropic from competing companies is explained by the fact that it is considered one of the leading players in the field of safe AI. In particular, this refers to developments in constitutional AI, where models are adjusted according to predefined principles.

Thus, the lawsuit could set an important tone for future relations between Washington and the artificial intelligence market, which has attracted the attention of those who usually try to keep their distance from competitors.
