Sanjar Akylbek uulu from the village of Koldyk (Koldyk) in the Uzgen district of the Osh region breeds taigans.

As he told a Turmush correspondent, the villager is engaged in animal husbandry. He previously worked in Russia for 6 years and returned to his homeland 2 years ago because his mother fell ill. He got married in May 2025.

“My interest in taigans (Kyrgyz greyhounds) started in childhood because my father also kept and trained them. I think this interest was passed down to me from him. Even when I lived in the city, I was constantly drawn to the village. Since my youth, I have hunted with taigans for foxes and jackals. Anyone who has ever gone hunting with a taigan will definitely want to keep a dog of this breed. Now I have 4 taigans — two females and two males, as well as one hunting dog of the Jagdterrier breed. The taigans are very accustomed to each other, and when they go hunting, they “work” as if they had agreed on everything in advance. Upon seeing the prey, they display incredible speed, agility, and intelligence. Their teeth are much sharper than those of other dogs,” Sanjar says.

Akylbek uulu shared what he considers a funny story. “Every year we go to the jailoo, where we slaughter livestock. Once, I went to the jailoo and returned early the next morning. As soon as I tied up the horse, the chickens started clucking loudly. My taigans immediately ran ahead, and I followed them. When I arrived, the taigans had already killed a fox. I had a big rooster, and the fox apparently wanted to take it. But it couldn’t pierce its feathers, so it was just plucking them out. When I saw the poor rooster, it was featherless and very scared. I remember it didn’t crow for three days and only managed to make a sound on the fourth day.

Another interesting story is that once I needed to urgently go on business, so I took my truck "Porter" to the city. When I arrived, I stopped and got out of the car to meet someone, and then I saw that my taigan was walking right behind me. It turned out he had quietly climbed into the truck bed and was riding with me. People around were very surprised. My goal for the future is to engage in breeding and present the Kyrgyz taigan to the whole world. God willing, I will do my best to achieve my dream,” Sanjar said.

Sanjar is 23 years old.
